Survey Properties Overview

Overview

When designing a survey you would normally first script the questionnaire. Besides the script itself there are many additional settings that you can configure a survey with to determine its behavior when in the field. Most of those settings are configured through the Survey Properties.

The following guide will describe the meaning of each option in the Survey Properties.

 

Survey Behavior

Accept NFC

Not implemented.

Add Shortcut

On Pocket PC’s will create a shortcut on the PPC’s desktop directly to the survey. (relevant only for PPC’s)

Attachments are not moved to reports

Not implemented.

Do Not Prompt Any Message On Cancel

By default, once cancellation of a result, a pop-up message will come up informing on the interview closure – this cancels this prompt pop-up message.

Do Not Prompt Any Message On Filter

By default, once a result gets filtered, a pop-up message will come up informing the interview closure – this cancels this prompt pop-up message.

Invisible in List

This will cause the survey to not be visible to the surveyors on the survey selection screen. Commonly used when working with child surveys when needing the child surveys to not be visible, but be opened only through the parent survey.

Prompt for user comment when saving survey 

This will pop up a window whenever the survey is saved (in the studio) asking to add a comment describing the changes made in the survey. The comments are visble in the "older versions" window of the survey

Prompt On Cancel

Will prompt a pop-up warning message before you cancel a result and require you to accept or cancel the action. (Only in PC)

Prompt On Filter

Will prompt a pop-up warning message before you filter a result and require you to accept or cancel the action. (Only in PC)

Prompt On Submit

Will prompt a pop-up warning message before you submit a result and require you to accept or cancel the action. (Only in PC)

Watermark pictures taken with date and time

Adds to captured during interview pictures a water mark of date and time

Watermark pictures taken with organization name

Adds to captured during interview pictures a water mark of the organization name

Watermark pictures taken with Subject Details

Adds to captured during interview pictures a water mark of the device index (global index) of the interview

 Scripting

Disable question symbol

When un-checked allow you to refer to a question's variable as a function's overload without using VRef (instead of the question's index). When checked- doesn't allow it, you would need to use VRef or the question's index. Changing this setting in an already scripted survey may be problematic.

Do Not Auto generate Report Index

Not implemented.

Do not use global script library (NOT RECOMMENDED)

Disables the usage of the global script library which is located in the ‘Library’ node within your organization tree – As this global library contains many functions which are very commonly used, this is highly not recommended.

Do not use organization script library (NOT RECOMMENDED)

Disables the usage of the organization script library which is located in the ‘Library’ node within your organization tree – As this organization library might contains functions which are used in this survey, this is highly not recommended.

Keep Previous Location Question City Search

 

ShortID as Question Index

Will use the Short ID value from the ‘Variables’ tab of a question as an index of the question when it is displayed to the surveyor on the screen.

 Display

Chapter Locator (Not supported on PPC)

Indicates the current chapter a surveyor is at, by adding a top banner with the chapter name within the running survey.
Chapter Navigation Freely Allows to navigate freely between chapters after enabling the TOC feature.
Description in Title Not implemented.

Do Not Scale Android Images

Tick this option if you do not want to use the automatic resizing of an image.
Do Not Show Num Of Question (In navigation control) Hides the number of the current question out of the total amount of question within the navigation control bar.
Do not stretch survey logo If a logo is configured for the survey, by default it is being stretched to fill the screen – this will disable the auto-stretching.
Enforce HTML For Mixed Answers And Topics (Recommended) Ticking this option will enforce HTML formatting for all Answers/Topics if one or more have HTML.  

Hide Back (In navigation control)

Hides the back button, during a survey run, disabling the possibility to go back to a previous page in the survey once continued.
Hide Fast Fwd (In navigation control) Disables the Fast Fwd button on a running survey – disallowing the surveyor to fast navigate to the latest question he reached to from the beginning of the survey. (PC Surveyor)
Hide Fast Fwd/Rewind  (in navigation control- only for PC/pocketPC) Disables the Fast Fwd\Rewind buttons on a running survey – disallowing the surveyor to fast navigate back to the beginning of a survey and to fast navigate to the latest question he reached to from the beginning of the survey. (PC Surveyor)
Ignore Html Formatting  Tick this option to ignore the HTML formatting added to questions

Ignore Html In Answers And Topics

Tick this option to ignore the HTML formatting added to Answers and Topics
Show fast back/forward on android Shows the Fast Forward\Fast Rewind button on Android devices.
Show Question Index Will set the question index attribute to be visible while running the survey.
Show Question Instructions Hides\Shows the surveyor instructions of a question while the script is running.
Show Serial Indicator Relevant only for PDA’s, not for Android\PC.
Show Surveyor Instructions above question Tick this option to show the surveyor the instructions added to a question above the question text.
Show Top Panel Enables the visibility of a top panel that holds a given text within the running survey. You can find an explanation about this feature over here: http://manual.dooblo.net/2009/12/14/chapter16/
Use Advanced Answer/Topic Alignment (Recommended) Ticking this option will automatically align the Answer/Topic to be the same size
Use Advanced Image Loading (Recommended) Ticking this option will Load images with advanced settings to fit best. 
Use Advanced Rendering Mode (Recommended) Ticking this option will enable advanced setting to best fit the rendering modes. 
 Quality Control
Interviews Require Approval (status will be "Requires Approval") This will make results conducted on this survey to be set to the status of ‘Requires Approval’ automatically once uploaded to the server and will require manual change through the operation console in order to set these. Commonly used for QA purposes.
Interviewer 
Allow Delete Of Incomplete Interviews Only Tick this option if you would like to allow the surveyor to delete incomplete interviews.
Allow Fast Subject Switching On Clients  Enables fast switching between interviews – allowing the interviewer to conduct parallel interviews rather than conducting them in serial mode.
Disallow Delete Results On Clients  By default, a surveyor can delete results from his device that are not yet uploaded to the server – this disables this feature and doesn’t allow surveyors to delete results from their device.
Disallow Viewing Incomplete Interviews Tick this option if you do not want to allow the surveyor to view incomplete interviews. 
Do Not Allow Early Completion By default, results that have been saved and not completed, can be set as completed by the surveyor and be uploaded to the server – this disables this features and doesn’t allow early completion.
Do Not Allow To Modify (Completed Results) By default, completed results can be accessed again by the surveyor and be modified – this disables this feature and doesn’t allow a surveyor to modify a completed result.
Do Not Show Collect Multimedia Button Disables the ‘Attachment’ button, disallowing surveyor to view the multimedia attachments they have collected during the interview
Hide Child Survey Menu/Button Disables the ‘Child Survey’ button within the running survey, disallowing a surveyor to open an attached child survey by himself.
Hide Return To Me Button (Does not affect Emulator) Used to transfer incomplete interviews from one device to another – for more details please contact: support@dooblo.com.
Hide Yellow Note Button (Does not affect Emulator) Disables the ‘Note’ button within a running survey, disallowing surveyors to take notes within the survey with the yellow ‘Note’ feature.
Show sound recorder bar (Android only) Displays the sound recording bar throughout the survey. (Android only)
Show take picture menu action (Android only) Enables a quick image capturing button on the Android interface, allowing taking a picture directly from the menu while conducting a survey.
Take picture menu action take multiple pictures (Android only) Enables a quick image capturing button on the Android interface, allowing taking multiple pictures directly from the menu while conducting a survey.
User cannot modify filtered subjects Disables the option for the surveyor to modify filtered results that are still on his device and have not yet been uploaded to the server.
Data Processing
Allow Duplicate Coding For Answers Tick this option to allow duplicate answer coding (relevant mostly for exporting purposes)
Do not accept interviews and attachments if rejected by supervisor Not yet Applicable
Do not accept interviews and attachments once survey mode is set to close Choose this option if you do not want to accept interviews after the survey has been set to 'Closed'
Lock Answer Automatic Coding Tick this option if you would like the coding to be set automatically without chaninging its value.
Multi Selection Questions default to Export Null as Missing Tick this option to export null as missing in multiple selection questions.
Use Coding Format For Iteration Export  Relevant for loop chapter iterated by scale, when this option is checked the exported file will use the iteration index. When unchecked will use the iteration name
Printing
Do Not Print Question Numbers Disable printing of question numbers when printing the survey to different formats.
Print Question Rules Enables the rules of the question to be printable when printing the survey to different formats. Including Entrance, Validation and Jump rules. (Does not include Start\End scripts)

  • Content does not list all the possible Survey Properties available at the moment.  Content requires update.

  • Allow Delete of Incomplete Interviews Only is also not on this list.
