The Role of AI in Transforming the Research Industry

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping the landscape of the research industry, offering new tools and capabilities that significantly enhance the speed, accuracy, and scope of data collection and analysis. New AI platforms and models are being introduced every day. Some specialize in one aspect (like languages and text) while other can focus on another (like image analysis for specific purposes). 

We decided that the better approach would be to open SurveyToGo to integrate with the various platforms so to allow you to utilize your best-of-choice AI platform for a specific project and give you the flexibility to use different platforms for the different needs. 

The 2 main aspects where AI can help you improve your data collection process are:

Productivity

AI has the potential to revolutionize research data collection by making it faster, more accurate. AI-powered tools like voice recognition, image analysis and real time consistency checks enable researchers to collect more data with less effort and fewer errors. By utilizing similar mechanisms it can significantly improve the quality control teams’ productivity and their ability to identify data quality issues. 

Data Quality
AI enhances accuracy and consistency through automated validation, anomaly detection, and intelligent data cleaning. Advanced capabilities like image and pattern recognition help identify subtle quality issues that may be overlooked by human reviewers. Automatic context understanding can assist with identifying consistency issues throughout an interview. Furthermore, AI can learn from historical data to predict and prevent common quality pitfalls, ensuring a more robust and reliable dataset.

The below samples show how you can utilize Open AI in your surveys in order to increase productivity and quality on several scenarios. Few important notes:

  • The same mechanism can be used with other AI platforms/Models. The samples are to demonstrate the capabilities and Open AI was selected only as an example of a platform that can be leveraged by SurveyToGo
  • The samples are common scenarios that we became familiar with through the years by focusing our efforts on improving the productivity and quality of the data collection work. The flexibility of the mechanism allows to implement additional scenarios that may fit other projects. We will be happy to hear about other scenarios from your process so we could build more samples to the library

Survey Samples Scenarios

  • Quality Control: Consistency Check - Validate Consistency of responses across various questions in your survey. In many surveys you have 'related' questions where their interview answers should be coherent. You can ask AI today to automatically check the consistency of answers between such questions.
    in this sample we check the consistency of the level of satisfaction of where you live then compare it to what you answered in the recommendation question. We ask your age then try to check the consistency with the number of children question. 
  • Productivity: Image Analysis - In scenarios where you want the surveyors to simply take an image rather then type in information from the image. Typing in a long text from a car shield number for example can be long and error prone. The surveyor can simply take picture then SurveyToGo can ask AI to capture the text in it and enter it into an open ended variable. This sample allows you to decide what task do you wan to perform on the image: Capture Text, Count items, provide a general description of the image or other (you can specify what you want AI to analyze on that captured image).
  • Productivity: Transcribe Captured Audio - in scenarios where you want the surveyor to ask the respondent a question and expect long answers. You can have the surveyors record the long answer rather than type it in then later SurveyToGo will use AI to transcribe it.
  • Quality Control: Transcribing - Compare Recording to Answer - In that scenario you would want AI to transcribe the silent recording of a question then check if the given answer (in the recording) fits what the surveyor mentioned in the survey. For example the respondent said they 'do not like...' but the surveyor selected 'like...' instead. 
  • Quality Control: Transcribing Silent Recording - Confirm Conversation - In this scenario we show how you check that a conversation actually took place and the recording is not 'silence'. 

Few notes about using the Samples:

  • To import the samples into your organization please follow: How To Import a Survey
  • The advanced script include most of the work that was done to 'wrap' the connection/API to Open AI. In most cases you would not need to change/touch that.
  • In the Advanced Scripts of every sample you have a first line where you would need to place your Open AI's account secret key
      
  • Most 'AI related' work is normally done in the expression question that is called ANALYZE_EXP, for example here:
  • That expression was created to be able to run also on complete interviews (see above image - Recalc On Resolve is checked).
    To run it on uploaded interviews you open the operations console, select the interviews you want to run that process on then select Resolve.
